➙Incredible but true, each ingredient has its benefits

    Cinnamon

The inner bark of the cinnamon tree, initially grey, takes on the typical red-brownish color when it dries in the sun. The merchants who transported it from the island of Ceylon to various parts of Asia and to Europe gave it the name “cin-a-monum”, meaning “Chinese wood that smells good”. With its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant effects, cinnamon also stimulates digestion and immunity. Some studies seem to show beneficial effects against type 2 diabetes and cholesterol.

    Clove

Acknowledged and appreciated since ancient times for its medicinal and culinary virtues in India and China, but also by the Greeks and Romans, the bud of the clove tree is native to eastern Indonesia. In 1770 Pierre Poivre introduced the first clove trees to Mauritius, which was French territory in those days. Harvested just before blossoming and then dried, it has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and analgesic virtues. Eugenol, its main active molecule, is at the same time responsible its characteristic taste and smell.

    Badiane

Originating just like the two previous spices from Southeast Asia and known since ancient times, it is also called “Star anise.” The green colored fruit is harvested twice a year, in spring and autumn. When sun-dried, it takes on a brown-reddish color. The star anise is known to have anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and calming effects. It stimulates digestion.

    Cardamom

Also native to Southeast Asia, it has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine in India as well as in ancient Greece and ancient Egypt. Cardamom surprisingly belongs to the Zingiberaceae family, like ginger. It has tonifying, antispasmodic, digestive as well as calming and balancing virtues.

    Orange peel

Surprisingly, in spite of its slight bitterness, orange peel is considered to be a sweetening condiment. With its antioxidant virtues it also, stimulates digestion. Some articles classify it as a fat burner.

    Vanilla

The vanilla bean is the fruit of an orchid native to Central America. It was discovered and imported to Europe by the Spanish conquerors at the beginning of the 16th century. Harvesting takes place from June to July. The process of scalding and steaming allows transformation and the development of its much-appreciated aroma. With its soft and sweet scent, vanilla has a positive action on the entire digestive system. With its antioxidant, comforting and relaxing effect it stimulates nevertheless the nervous system.

Even though it is only a minor ingredient in our “Instant Divin”, its presence is important to soften and balance the expression of the other spices.
